Long Island’s best heart program gave Susan more heartbeats

Susan flew 1,000 miles from Florida to be treated by New York’s most experienced cardiac team.

Susan Kotkin had run out of options in Florida. So she came to the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital at North Shore University Hospital, where New York’s most experienced cardiac team worked tirelessly to save her life and get her home. Now, she wears a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) daily to keep her heart pumping strong—and is back to driving, visiting her grandkids and working toward achieving even more goals.

“I felt like at North Shore University Hospital, I was a whole person. The care was incredible. I didn’t have that in Florida,” Susan explained. She had this to say to her care team: “Thank you for being there. Thank you for my life. Thank you for being so supportive.”
