Northwell EMTs help mom deliver baby on bathroom floor

MANHASSET, NY —

Members of Northwell Health’s Center for Emergency Medical Services (CEMS) and Malverne Police Department came to Katz Women’s Hospital in Manhasset today to visit baby Avyanna Seerena Mangru, of Malverne, NY.

When baby Avyanna decided to enter the world on November 5 – a day earlier than expected – her surprised mother, Anuradha Mangru, began screaming for help. She quickly realized the baby was going to be born on her bathroom floor.

A quick call to 911 brought responders from Northwell’s CEMS and members of the Village of Malverne Volunteer Ambulance Corps, as well as the Malverne Police Department.

Happy reunion at Katz Women's Hospital

Thanks to their quick arrival and expertise, the baby was born in perfect health and brought immediately to Katz Women’s Hospital. Mom, baby and father, Vishal, were delighted to greet their team of heroes in their hospital room.

During the emotional reunion, Mrs. Mangru looked up at the gathering of EMS workers and police officers and said, “Thank you so much for coming so quickly and taking such good care of me. You all did such a wonderful job...I knew I was in the best of hands.”
