Helping you achieve a seizure-free life
Our compassionate team is focused on providing you and your loved ones with the safest, most advanced treatments for epilepsy. We help make seizure control possible—so you can enjoy life to the fullest.

Who we are

The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at North Shore University Hospital provides award-winning epilepsy care delivered by a dedicated team of nationally recognized experts, including specialty-trained neurosurgeons, epilepsy neurologists, residents, physician assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners.

Our specialists utilize the most advanced treatments available for evaluating epilepsy, preventing seizures and treating comorbidities (other conditions the patient may have) that affect individuals with epilepsy. By providing personalized, patient-centered care, we empower our patients to take control of their health and regain the confidence they need to live productive and fulfilling lives.

Why choose us

At the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, our specialists are at the forefront of innovation and technology. By providing the newest and most advanced treatments for epilepsy throughout the region and nationally, we are transforming the future of epilepsy care—one groundbreaking achievement at a time.

We are the first on Long Island to:

  • Offer laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT), a minimally invasive treatment for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (when seizures don’t respond to medication)
  • Implant the AspireSR device, which delivers vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) to the brain that predicts oncoming seizures

Our team is also the first in the New York metro area, and one of the first in the United States, to use stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) and laser ablation, with MRI-guided thermal imaging and laser technology. With these minimally invasive techniques, our doctors can pinpoint the precise source of seizure activity and surgically remove the part of the brain that is causing seizures.

Top rated in the nation for epilepsy care

Designated as a Level 4 epilepsy center—the highest rating by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC)—our program at North Shore University Hospital includes a dedicated, state-of-the-art 10-bed epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) that is staffed 24/7.

Level 4 centers provide complex and intensive neurodiagnostic monitoring, in addition to extensive medical, neuropsychological and psychosocial treatment options. Fourth-level centers also offer comprehensive evaluations for epilepsy and a broad range of surgical procedures to treat the condition.
